We are thrilled to announce that Joshua Oppenheimer’s short film The Revolution Against Death has won the Best Danish Documentary Award at this years’s OFF - Odense International Film Festival!
The jury states: "Desperate times call for desperate measures. This could be the tag line of this year's winner in the Danish Competition. It is a film that uses a microcosmos to tell the story of maybe the greatest human macrocosmos of them all: that we are all going to die.
It is essentially a film about life but gives one a feeling of death lurking everywhere. A hotel corridor shot in tableau could mean warmth and vacation, but in this film, it oozes of loneliness, a health care system in decay, a society in free fall.
A person in a white coat asking how you are, could mean care and professional help, but in this film, it represents people being sold eternal life, not by religion - although it feels that way - but with pills, promises and packaged lies. The characters in this ensemble all desperately seek hope and survival, in an escape quest that they will never complete.
The fear of losing control is in every sentence, every face, every clap in the convention center where your own decaying body is your worst enemy. The director continues his philosophical film journey from former works into this truly American Horror Story."
