'THE LOOK OF SILENCE' RECEIVES PRIZE FROM THE DANISH ARTS FOUNDATION / by Maria Kristensen

Joshua Oppenheimer has been awarded a prize of 62,000 DKK from the Danish Arts Foundation for his critically praised documentary The Look of Silence. The film is among this year's three recipients of the prize, which the Danish Arts Foundation awards to creative filmmakers for their work.

The Foundation's film committee elaborates on their selection by stating that:

"The grant committee awards Joshua Oppenheimer a prize for The Look of Silence because of the film's artistic precision and the great courage of the filmmaker in depicting mass murderers and their victims. The film is proof that, in the right hands, the artistically experimental documentary can illuminate the darkest chapters of history as well as give us the chance to decode the diverse, human emotions that lay behind the bare, historical facts".
